There are a few different ways to volunteer with us:

Become a Food Rescue Volunteer
  • Sign up for the Food Rescue Robot to take on any of our scheduled pick-ups and/or distribution opportunities. Specific details and instructions will be attached to the shift posted on the Robot schedule. Generally, volunteers are responsible for two kinds of shifts:

  1. Rescue Missions: volunteers are sent to designated donor sites at specified times to pick-up the "food waste." Rescue shifts take approximately 1-2 hours and include pick-up, transport, weighing, data recording, sorting for compost, and storing prior to delivery (if applicable).

  2. Distribution: volunteers will arrive at designated recipient site at specified time to table and help distribute food items to community members. Delivery shifts take approximately 1.5-2.5 hours and include transport, set-up, distribution, and clean-up.

  • Sign up for the BFR on-call volunteer GroupMe to help cover impromptu donations and rescue missions. This GroupMe will be regulated and used solely for the purpose of communicating on-call rescue opportunities that arise irregularly throughout the week. Impromptu shifts are posted and only those volunteers who are able to cover the shift respond so that we avoid unnecessary messages. To sign up, contact us at binghamtonfoodrescue@gmail.com.
