What is a Food Rescue Program? What Does BFR Do?
Binghamton Food Rescue is an organization located in Binghamton, New York. We practice just-in-time rescue of perishable food "waste" for 24 hour redistribution at community meals and no-cost grocery programs that serve food-insecure communities. Our goal is to increase access to nutritious food, mitigate waste, and promote a sustainable local food system.
Due to the time-sensitive nature of perishable food recovery, accessing nutritious food in many communities is thus a costly investment and no easy task. This is where we come in: we aspire to bridge the gap where perishable food items are lost to waste by employing a just-in-time, frequent "door-to-door" style of on-the-ground operations. This means recovering soon-to-expire produce, damaged produce, and prepared goods and delivering them as-soon-as-possible at the doorsteps of community grocery programs and meal distribution centers to give away at no cost.

Our intention at Binghamton Food Rescue is thus to fill in the existing gaps between potential food donors and recipients, especially where fresh produce with high nutrient content is being wasted.
Our organizational framework is humbly based off the model provided by the Food Rescue Alliance & Boulder Food Rescue, for whose activism and guidance we are eternally grateful.
